Donors
Why Participate?
The Food Donation Exchange is a multi-sector platform open to all types of businesses in the food industry. By offering your unsold food items or your FEAD surplus to food aid organizations, your company becomes an actor in sustainable development with a triple impact:
✓ Societal
Through your donations, you allow food aid organizations to access diverse food supplies. In Belgium, more than 240,000 people rely on “food aid services. By donating your unsold items, you help food aid” organizations fulfill their mission. This approach allows you to align with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) principles and comply with emerging legislation.
✓ Economic
Unsold food items represent costs in your business (commercial loss, storage, disposal). Donating your unsold items reduces your waste quantity and saves money on waste management. Moreover, since July 31, 2013, the distribution of your unsold food items is exempt from VAT when food products are donated free of charge to recognized food banks and, since May 21, 2015, to food aid organizations recognized by their municipality or CPAS, for free redistribution to people in precarious situations. (Circular 2020/C/116 regarding the provision of food and essential non-food items for charitable purposes).
✓ Environmental
By donating your food surplus, you reduce your waste quantity. Donating your food surplus means fighting food waste while reducing your company’s environmental impact.
